White House Staffer Shot at Boyfriend, Police Say

A White House employee is charged with assault after she argued with her boyfriend, a Capitol Police officer, and allegedly fired his gun.

A White House staffer from Prince George’s County allegedly fired her boyfriend’s handgun at him during an argument over whether he was seeing other women, authorities said.

The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested Barvetta Singletary, 37, of the 13000 block of Burnished Wood Court in Upper Marlboro in what police say was a domestic dispute.

Police say Singletary grabbed her boyfriend’s service weapon; he works for the U.S. Capitol Police.

Singletary is a special assistant to the president and House legislative affairs liaison, reports NBCWashington. White House officials said Singletary is on unpaid leave, and her access to the White House complex has been revoked while the case is under investigation.

Her LinkedIn page says she is a deputy chief of staff at the House of Representatives.

Singletary reportedly grabbed two cell phones and the man’s .40 caliber Glock 23 service weapon out of his car, according to charging documents. NBC reports Singletary demanded the passwords to the victim’s phones, then fired the gun when he refused.
