Prince George's County Coronavirus Update: 15,353 Cases

The Maryland Department of Health confirmed Monday there are 15,353 total cases of the new coronavirus in Prince George's County.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD – The Maryland Department of Health confirmed Monday there are 15,353 total cases of the new coronavirus in Prince George's County.

There have been 521 coronavirus-related deaths in the county, according to the department of health.

In the county's congregant facilities, such as senior living centers and group homes, there have been 388 total positive cases and four confirmed deaths among staff members, and 905 confirmed cases and 202 deaths among residents in Prince George's County, according to the latest data.

Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks signed executive order Thursday to lift her stay-at-home order and allow the county to enter the first stage of a modified phased reopening on Monday. Among a number of changes, stage one of the reopening allows restaurants in the county to be able to serve customers in outside dining areas, and barbershops and hair salons will be able to provide hair cutting services with some restrictions.

Worldwide, more than 6.2 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 373,000 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins University. In the United States, more than 1.7 million people have been infected and over 104,000 people have died from COVID-19.

Prince George's County still has the highest number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus of any county in the state, according to the latest data from the Maryland Department of Health.

Second on the list is Montgomery County, with a total of 11,476 positive infections. However, Montgomery does have more COVID-19-related deaths than Prince George's County with 576 deaths as of Monday.

The CDC advises doing the following to stop the spread of the virus:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If this is not available, use hand sanitizer that is at least 60 percent alcohol.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Keep 6 feet of space between people.
  • Stay home.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
