Prince George's Schools Make Friday Schedule Change

Four schools are offering free lunches to all Prince George's County Public Schools student; all employees must report for work Friday.

UPPER MARLBORO, MD — With officials urging residents to dig out bus stops and sidewalks, All Prince George’s County Public Schools will be closed to students on Friday, Jan. 29, but employees must report to work.

The school system will operate on a modified code green Friday. Essential personnel must report to work on time, while 12-month employees must report on a two-hour delay.

Saturday athletic events will go on as planned; all Saturday and Sunday community and religious events will continue as scheduled.

Schools will re-open on time for all employees and students on Monday, Feb. 1.

Students who need a meal can find a free lunch at several area schools, officials said.

  • Lunch is provided at no cost and is open to any PGCPS student between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at these schools:
  • Northwestern High School, 7000 Adelphi Road in Hyattsville
  • Suitland High School, 5200 Silver Hill Road in Forestville
  • William Paca Elementary School, 7801 Sheriff Road in Landover
  • Langley Park-McCormick Elementary School, 8201 15th Ave. in Hyattsville

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall amounts totaled 19 inches in College Park to 25 inches in Hyattsville.

The Prince George’s County 3-1-1 call center was overwhelmed with snow requests from residents seeking service earlier in the week. In order to avoid long wait times, residents should submit their snow removal request online versus calling 3-1-1.

To submit an online request go tohttp://countyclick.princegeorgescountymd.gov/ and click on “Submit Request for Snow Removal” at the top of page.

3-1-1 is only available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., after hours residents can call the Snow Information Center at 301-350-0500. However, officials urge all residents to submit requests online to avoid extended wait times.
