Support Shop With A Cop And Brighten The Holidays For Bowie Kids
Donations are being accepted through Dec. 10 for Bowie's Shop with a Cop holiday program.

BOWIE, MD — There's one day left to support youth in the community who will be participating in Shop with a Cop this holiday season. Now in its 12th year, Shop with a Cop is a joint effort between the Bowie Police Department, local businesses and the community to help make the holidays brighter for kids and families.
With donations provided to the Shop with a Cop program, children are able to shop for gifts for themselves and their family members. The kids also get to spend time with police officers.
Bethany DeRight with the Bowie Police Department told Patch the community services division of the police department has a strong partnership with the Bowie Interfaith Food Pantry, local churches, area public school counselors and administrators.

"In this way, we're able to ensure we select families who are truly in need," she said.

Last year, due to COVID, approximately 80 children participated in Shop with a Cop. This year, the department expects to welcome at least that many kids. Due to COVID precautions still in place in Prince George's County, this year's event will be a drive-thru event where kids will be given a gift card and other goodies.

"Funding is graciously provided by donations from Bowie residents and local sponsors who work closely with us in many Bowie Police Department events," DeRight said. "Our officers look forward to this event every single year. It's a chance to have some much-needed fun, spread holiday cheer, get to know more Bowie families and have some one-on-one time with Bowie youth."
