Suspect Arrested In Fatal Shooting Of D.C. Man In Capitol Heights: Prince George's Police

A Washington, D.C., man has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of another D.C. man that happened in Capitol Heights.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A 37-year-old Washington, D.C., man has been arrested and charged in connection to a fatal shooting that happened in Capitol Heights.

According to the Prince George's County Police Department, Michael Malachi Ford has been charged with first-degree murder and related charges in the death of 65-year-old Leon Steadham of Washington, D.C.

On Dec. 6 at approximately 7:10 p.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of Abel Avenue for the report of a shooting. They found Steadham in the road suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A preliminary investigation suggests the fatal shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute. The suspect and victim knew each other, police say.
