Officers are searching for the suspect who, while stealing items from a convenience store, fatally assaulted the owner, according to police.
CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD — A surveillance video has been released of the suspect wanted in connection to the fatal assault of a convenience store owner. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
On March 5 around 7:50 a.m., Prince George's police officers were called to a convenience store in the 900 block of Larchmont Avenue for a report of a man who was unresponsive. They found 50-year-old Mohammad Hanif of Annandale, Virginia, with head trauma. He was taken to the hospital and died of his injuries March 8, according to the police department.
A preliminary investigation indicates the suspect attacked the victim while stealing items from the store. The suspect then took off on a bicycle.

According to NBC Washington, Hanif opened the convenience store about 1.5 years ago. He was a husband and father of three.
“My dad was a great person. He cared so much about us. He was such a great person, such a humble heart. He was so nice,” Hanif’s daughter Fatema Raisa said.

Prior to owning the convenience store, Hanif worked at Subway. He moved to the United States from Bangladesh in 1999. His family said he worked long hours to provide for their family and loved helping others, according to NBC Washington.
“If somebody don't have money, he'd say, ‘Go ahead, take it, whatever you like.’ That kind of person. Why you gotta kill him? That's what we want to know,” said his sister-in-law Lutfun Ismail.
