Oxon Hill Man Sentenced In D.C. Rideshare Vehicle Theft That Injured Driver

An Oxon Hill man has been sentenced for his role in the carjacking of a rideshare vehicle that injured the driver, prosecutors said.

OXON HILL, MD — A 23-year-old Oxon Hill man has been sentenced to prison in the theft of a Lyft rideshare vehicle on June 2, 2022.

Derrick Teeter requested a Lyft ride to pick him up in the 3800 block of South Capitol Street SE and drop him off in the 600 block of 46th Street SE. Teeter climbed into the vehicle and sat in the back seat on the passenger side, then pretended to feel sick and asked the driver to pull over, which the driver did.

Authorities said Teeter got out of the vehicle, then asked for water and a tissue. The driver brought him those items and that's when Teeter pushed the driver to the ground, jumped into the vehicle and took off.

While lying on the ground, the driver grabbed the open car door and yelled for Teeter to stop, but he didn't and instead dragged the driver a short distance. The driver finally let go and was able to flag down another driver to help him. That driver called 911 and Teeter was treated on the scene for injuries he suffered.

The stolen vehicle was found the next day by police, according to court documents.
