Suspect Arrested In Man's Shooting Death: Prince George's Police

The suspect in a fatal shooting has been charged with first- and second-degree murder. Two other people were injured, police say.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The suspect in a fatal shooting has been arrested and charged with the July 2021 murder of 44-year-old Angel Olivares of Capitol Heights.

On July 31, 2021, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Prince George's patrol officers responded to the 6700 block of 22nd Place. Officers found a van that had crashed with Olivares in the driver’s seat suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Two additional victims also had been shot while in the van. Those victims survived their injuries, according to the police department.

A preliminary investigation shows the suspect and victims did not know each other and the motive remains under investigation. Howell has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and related charges. He is in the custody of the department of corrections on a no-bond status.
