Take Shelter: Hail, Intense Thunderstorms Rolling Through DC Suburbs in Maryland

Large hail is being reported in Montgomery County, with the storm pushing into PG County late Friday.

Authorities warn that a strong storm is passing through Montgomery County toward Prince George's County late Friday afternoon, so take shelter if you hear rumbling. Pictures and videos posted online show quarter-sized hail in some areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the east central District of Columbia and Prince George's County until 5:45 p.m., with a severe thunderstorm located over Cheverly and moving southeast at 30 mph just after 5 p.m.

Golf ball-size hail and 60 mph wind gusts are possible, NWS warns, with one trained weather spotter reporting hail of that size in Takoma Park.

"Expect wind damage to trees and power lines. Hail is large enough to dent and damage vehicles," NWS states. "Some hail damage to roofs, siding, and windows is possible."

The impacted locations include: Bowie, Forestville, Largo, Coral Hills, Upper Marlboro, RFK Stadium, Fedex Field, Gallaudet University, Andrews Air Force Base, Landover, Camp Springs, Kettering, Walker Mill, Mitchellville, Rosaryville, Lake Arbor, Marlton, Cheverly, Seat Pleasant and Woodmore.
