Teen Shot By Retired Cop In Stolen Car Case Out Of Prince George's County: Report

A 17-year-old was critically injured in an altercation with a retired cop who claimed he had stolen a family member's vehicle, police say.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A 17-year-old from Mount Rainier faces numerous charges after a retired Prince George’s County police officer tracked down a stolen vehicle belonging to his family and found the teen, plus two other individuals, sitting in the stolen vehicle in Glenn Dale. The adult shot the teen during an altercation, who also was armed, then administered aid to the teen while waiting for help.

Saturday around 12:30 p.m., Prince George's County police officers were called to the 9900 block of Marguerita Avenue for a report of a shooting. NBC Washington reported that the shooter in the incident was a retired police officer, but the police department did not confirm that.

The man found the vehicle parked on Marguerita Avenue that had been stolen from a family member sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning. That theft had been reported to the police department, according to a police report.

Three people were sitting in the vehicle when they were approached by the man. The 17-year-old climbed out of the vehicle. They argued and the man shot the teen. He was taken to a hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition, according to police.

The two other people in the stolen vehicle took off in the car. The 17-year-old faces multiple handgun charges and theft of a vehicle charges. At this time, no one else involved in this incident has been charged in connection with the case, the police department noted.
