A 38-year-old Hyattsville man has been convicted of sexually abusing a teenager. He will be sentenced Dec. 9.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A 38-year-old Hyattsville man has been convicted of abusing a girl. Luis Melgar Delgado has been found guilty of the sexual abuse of a minor and third-degree sexual offense, both felonies, Prince George's County authorities said.
On Sept. 14, 2021, patrol officers were notified that the victim wrote a note that was received by school officials that indicated abuse by a family member, prosecutors said in a news release. The teen was interviewed by a social worker at the Child Advocacy Center where it was disclosed that the family member had sexually abused the victim by fondling and performing other sex acts.
The victim was 14 years old at the time.

“It is horrible that a child had to endure this abuse,” said State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy. “I am truly thankful that we were able to get justice for the victim in this case and that the victim bravely testified against the abuser. Let me also say that cases involving abuse of children are never easy to prosecute. So I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Llamilet Gutierrez for being steadfast and dedicated in securing this conviction.”
Delgado is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 9.
