Third Wise High School Student In 3 Months Fatally Shot: Prince George's County Police
The third Wise High School student in three months was fatally shot Thursday night in an elementary school parking lot, police say.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — An 18-year-old shot in a District Heights parking lot Thursday has become the third Dr. Henry A. Wise High School student in three months' time to be killed. Friday would have been 18-year-old Kendall Batson’s last day of school before his graduation.
Batson of District Heights was shot outside North Forestville Elementary School in the 2300 block of Ritchie Road in Forestville shortly after 6:30 p.m. He was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.
“It was a couple people sad, but we tried to keep our heads held high,” high school senior Daniel Mayo told DC News Now. “We’re graduating for him, we’re going to keep his name alive definitely."

In early March, Batson was driving a vehicle with a passenger and friend, Cayliy Haygood, on board. They were on the way to school when they were involved in a car crash that claimed the life of Haygood, Patch reported. The crash unfolded around 9 a.m. near Ritchie Marlboro and Dunsmore Terrace Road.
According to WUSA, police believe the car the two students were in crashed into a landscaping trailer parked on the side of the road. WUSA revealed that another crash happened two blocks away from this crash a few hours earlier that same day.
