UPDATE: Shooting Threat At Bowie High School Was Prank

A threat against Bowie High School on Twitter brought extra police officers to the building; school official say it was a hoax.

BOWIE, MD — Extra police officers were at Bowie High School Wednesday after a threat was made on social media, which school officials said turned out to be a prank.

The Prince George's County Police Department and the Bowie Police Department were aware of and investigated the threat, which was posted on social media.

A Twitter user labeled Unknown Kid said that they planned to fire shots at 1:55 p.m. at the school annex. No issues were reported at the school Wednesday.

The statement was made Tuesday night as a prank and there is no credible threat to the school, said Sherrie Johnson, public information officer for Prince George's County Public Schools.

"It's business as usual. There was no evacuation," Johnson told The Capital-Gazette.

Prince George's County Police said on its blog that authorities are working closely with the school system on this issue.

"We take this and all threats seriously," police said.

There were additional officers at the school out of an abundance of caution.
