Trash Collection Schedule Changed, County Buildings Closed Due To Winter Storm

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — County government buildings and the court system are closed Monday due to the winter storm blanketing the state. The county school system also is closed Monday.

Monday's food scraps and yard trim collection also has been canceled for Monday and will resume the following Monday, Feb. 2. Residents receiving county-contracted waste collection service are not to place collection carts at the curb to allow snowplows to safely operate and clear roadways. Residents who receive county-contracted curbside recycling that's collected on Monday also has those services canceled. Collection services will resume on Monday, Feb. 2.

The county animal services facilities also are closed Monday, as are the following centers and facilities:

• Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill (Upper Marlboro)
• Brown Station Road Residential Drop-off Convenience Center (Upper Marlboro)
• Missouri Avenue Drop-off Convenience Center (Brandywine)
• Prince George's County Organics Composting Facility (Upper Marlboro)
• Prince George's County Materials Recycling Facility (Capitol Heights)

Additional warming centers have opened, which are staffed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., officials noted. Residents can contact the 24/7 Shelter Hotline at 1-888-731-0999 to request overnight emergency shelter, which is noted below with an asterisk.

North County

Central County

South County

• Fairfield Inn & Suites* - 7979 Malcolm Rd., Clinton, Warming Center (Overnight Availability)
• Suitland Community Center - 5600 Regency Ln., Forestville

All schools and offices with Prince George's County Public Schools are closed for Monday, officials announced Sunday late afternoon.

Only emergency personnel are to report to work. Teachers will have a virtual self-directed professional day to complete end of quarter grade reporting, planning and other professional duties. The school district also cancelled all weekend activities and facility use on Sunday.
