'Wanted And Dangerous' Fugitive Captured In PG County: Police

Alton Thodos was suspected in a number of crimes in Fairfax County, Va.

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, MD -- Prince George's County Police assisted in the arrest of a man wanted in Virginia for numerous crimes who was considered "wanted and dangerous" by police.

Prince George's County Police tweeted at 1:46 p.m. Tuesday that they had "assisted in the arrest of a suspected wanted by" Fairfax County Police. The suspect, Alton Thodos, was taken into custody in the 6200 block of Marlboro Pike.

Fairfax County Police confirmed the arrest in a tweet, thanking PG County police as well as Virginia State Police, Park Police, D.C. police, and Alexandria, Va. police for their assistance.

About an hour before, Fairfax County Police tweeted that they were attempting to arrest Thodos: "We are currently assisting MPD in an attempt to capture Alton Thodos who was driving a stolen vehicle through Fairfax County earlier. He is a wanted and dangerous fugitive. Our helicopter is assisting in this fluid situation involving multiple jurisdictions."

Fairfax County Police have not announced charges at this time. He was wanted for active warrants on grand larceny, credit card theft, credit card fraud and a probation violation.

Police went to the Virginia Lodge Motel in Belle Haven on Sept. 29 to serve the arrest warrant. Thodos threatened to harm himself if police entered his motel room. He managed to escape into the attic through the ceiling and get away through another part of the building.

Since his escape, police believe Thodos was responsible for other crimes in the area. Residents reported a number of car break-ins and a stolen car in the Belle Haven and Rose Hill areas on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
