“It was all about divide and conquer,” said student Dina Duncan Haines of Severna Park. “We did the challenges we knew we could win. We also brought a unique skill set. We all have different skills in different areas, and we worked as a team on each challenge.”
The class had only been working together for the duration of the eight-week course taught at the community college. Haines said the tricks they learned in class gave them the edge over the competition.
“I think it’s indicative of what’s being taught in the classroom here. It’s applicable to real-world solutions right away,” she said.
Dawn Blanche, the instructor for the class, is in her first semester at AACC. She credited the team’s perseverance and determination for how they did so well.
The team will receive an award at the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Conference, Jan. 22-27 in Atlanta, GA.
