Goshen Farm Hosts Spring Open House

Annual Spring Open House April 23, from noon to 5 p.m. at Historic Site and Education Center.

Make it a family day on the Farm. Visitors can tour the historic Farm House built in 1783, the Sharing Garden, the High Tunnel used to grow winter crops, and view the planned location of the Wildlife Pond. Learn about the history of Goshen Farm while strolling through the recently planted Colonial Orchard, the Memorial Grove, and the Henson-Hall Slave Garden installed to recognize the 12 slaves known to have labored on the Farm. Amble through the self-guided Walking Trail and visit the Soil Health Pit for an informative discussion led by the Assistant State Soil Scientist. Observe the honeybees in action and learn about the need for bees at the Farm Apiary's.

Learn about living shore lines and how oyster floats may protect beaches. Talk with representatives of the Maryland Oyster Growers Association and purchase freshly shucked oysters for $1 apiece.

Bring blankets and chairs to listen to live performances by local artist Dirk Schwenk and local duo Trekkie Jones. Margaret Stinchcomb Tydings, courtesy of Victoria Garbesi (PVA intern), provides a glimpse into life at Goshen Farm in the 1860s.
