This week in Broadneck, the community college narrowed its search for a new president, and the County Council asked the police chief a few questions. All this and more has been rounded up into the top five stories of the week.

The chairwoman of 's Board of Trustees said a final decision on the new president will come soon. The finalists have been narrowed from a list of 120 candidates down to threeβ€”two from California and one from New York. The candidates toured the Arnold campus this week while final interviews were conducted.

The councilman said he would serve the council as he served the Marinesβ€”with honor. Smith gave a quick speech on his first night in District 1's seat, calling the actions that led to him being finally nominated "a whirlwind" of activity.

After being subpoenaed by the County Council, county Police Chief James Teare Sr. said he would not answer any questions that were subject to .

"I do not want to break the law, so I respectfully decline to answer questions which require me to do that," Teare said.

The county police department'sΒ Deputy Chief Emerson Davis is set to testify before the council on Monday.

Overnight Chesapeake Bay Bridge delays began Monday during the first full painting the bridge has received since it opened in 1973. The westbound lanes were closed during nighttime hours so that scaffolding could be erected and painting can begin. The work is expected to last until the fall.

A week-long lesson on energy conservation was the focus at The Goddard School in Arnold.Β The event, called "Stepping Up The Environment," is being coordinated with theΒ World Wildlife Fund Earth Hour.Β Goddard preschoolers learned lessons and participated in exercises that focus on the importance of conserving power and saving our planet, said school director Maisie Appel.
