Accomplishment: Deniko Carter is making himself right at home in his opponent’s end zone.
In the Comets 35-15 victory over Woodlawn last Friday, Carter was an absolute game changer. The 6’3, two-way player snatched two interceptions in the first half, one which he ran back 35 yards for a touchdown to make the score 14-0. His second pick stopped Woodlawn just as the Warriors were knocking on the doorstep of the end zone to end the second quarter.
With the score 21-8 after Woodlawn scored to get back in the game, Carter quickly halted their comeback hopes with a 75-yard catch-and-run touchdown on a fly pattern down the sideline. Carter caught the ball about 20 yards down the field and did the rest of the work himself, weaving past defenders before diving head first for the touchdown to help his team put the game away.
In the Comets most recent game against Franklin (a 35-7 victory), Carter out-muscled Indians cornerback Ian Thomas for the game’s opening score. The senior ran a fade toward the back of the end zone and climbed overtop Thomas to make the catch and the set the tone for the game.
