Catonsville Football Creeps Into Baltimore Sun Poll

The Comets enter the week ranked No. 15 in the metro poll. Their Friday night match up against No. 14 Franklin is one of four contenders for Fox45's Game of the Week.

Off to a 3-0 start with wins over Boys Latin, Perry Hall and Woodlawn, Catonsville football earned the No. 15 spot in the Baltimore Sun poll for this week.

Over those three contests, the Comets have outscored their opponents 94-44 and are averaging just over 31 points per game.

Despite the recognition from the Sun, head coach Rich Hambor is hardly patting himself on the back. He has his team focused on improving each week with returning to the post season as their ultimate goal.

“We’re pleased to be ranked this week, but it’s really just an opinion poll,” Hambor said. “It’s nice, but one of our goals is to make the playoffs, and to do that, we need to perform at a higher level in each game. The computer rankings are the ones we’re really watching closely.”

Catonsville faces arguably its toughest test so far this season when it takes on No. 14 Franklin Friday night for Homecoming. The Indians have collected back-to-back wins over county powers Eastern Tech (13-2) and Hereford (24-19) after dropping their season opener to Henry Wise of Prince George’s County, 30-7.
