Sustainability, we will be planting several species of native trees along this stream.

DIRECTIONS TO REGISTRATION AND PARKING: A registration table will be in the gravel parking lot at Patapsco Horse Farm, 2501 Frederick Rd. (Route 144) in Catonsville. Look for posted signs off of Frederick Road.
From Howard County, it is approximately 1 1/2 miles from Main Street Ellicott City.
For those of you using GOOGLE or YAHOO Maps, the address is 2501 Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD 21228.
Signs will direct you to the registration table in the parking lot.
It's RAIN OR SHINE! We will be planting 70 new trees (black gum, pin oak, sycamore and willow oak) that are approximately 5-6 feet tall and 10 bushes (red osier dogwood). We will be planting on both sides of a section of Thistle Run up to a forested area. We will be doing everything possible to make sure these trees make it in this section near the stream, from digging holes to placing wooden stakes and fencing around them, as well as adding root enhancer and mulch! Volunteer registration is appreciated so we know how much supplies we need!
WHAT TO WEAR:
Wear comfortable waterproof shoes and clothes that can get dirty or wet. We recommend our volunteers wear long pants and shirt, so any prickly underbrush or insects won't bother you, and boots to keep your feet dry!

WHAT ELSE TO BRING:
IMPORTANT: We desperately need our volunteers to bring 1-2 gallons of tap water, buckets, shovels, sledge hammers and wheel barrows.
We do have some tools, but appreciate when volunteers bring their own and will need to share with others who don't bring them.
Wheelbarrows and sledge hammers are especially appreciated if you can bring one, which is very helpful for transporting bags of mulch & pounding in wooden stakes. It's a good idea to mark your name on any tools/equipment you bring with permanent marker so in case we find them later, we can be sure to return them to you!
We ask our volunteers to bring 1-2 plastic milk cartons or soda containers filled with your own tap water. If everybody brings these filled jugs of water to water the new trees, it will make everyone's life much easier than trying to retrieve water from the nearby stream which only has a lot of water if it rained earlier in the week!
We also appreciate and recommend you bring your own work gloves, water/drink, sunscreen and insect repellent. If you are allergic to insect bites or stings, please bring any needed medications and notify the tree captain of your allergy.
WHO CAN I BRING?
You are welcome to bring your family and friends. Children under 16 are welcome if they are supervised and accompanied by an adult volunteer.
Start thinking of a name for the tree(s) you plant! We'll share the names with our volunteers at the end of the event!
We hope to see you there!
