Hopkins Graduate and Author to Speak about Dementia

Brightview Rolling Hills hosts Dr. Anne Lipton on Wednesday, April 22 at 6:00pm.

Brightview Rolling Hills, located at 848 South Rolling Road in Catonsville, will be hosting an educational seminar and book signing with Dr. Anne Lipton, MD, PhD on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm.

“Dementia and the 7 Common ‘Senses’ of Caregiving” will cover the seven common senses of caregiving, how to use them to minimize everyday problems and maximize effective caregiving strategies.

A board certified neurologist, Dr. Lipton is co-author of The Common Sense Guide to Dementia for Clinicians and Caregivers. The book places an emphasis on the caregiver in addition to the person living with dementia. Topics covered in the book include how to find the right clinician, making the most of a doctor’s visit and averting a crisis, or managing one that can’t be avoided.

Since completing her neurology residency and fellowship at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Lipton’s career has included clinical care, research and teaching as well as writing and speaking to raise public awareness and understanding of neurological diseases and their treatment. In addition to publications in major scientific journals, Dr. Lipton has co-edited three medical texts on Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. The Common Sense Guide to Dementia for Clinicians and Caregivers showcases her gift for explaining complex concepts in a straightforward way.

In 2015, according to the Alzheimer’s Association, an estimated 5.3 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. In addition, last year, family and friends of people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias provided an estimated 17.9 billion hours of unpaid care, a contribution to the nation valued at $217.7 billion.
