The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the world’s leader in the search for a cure for CF. CF is a life-threatening, inherited chronic disease that obstructs the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). Currently, the Foundations efforts have produced drug therapies that have increased the life expectancy for CF patients from 5 years of age to over 40 years of age. Much of the Foundation’s effectiveness in fighting CF can be attributed to its efficient use of charitable funding. Over 90% of every dollar raised supports CF research, patient/family care, and education programs. The Foundation’s drug development success has been recognized by Harvard Business School and by publications such as Forbes, Discover magazine, and The Wall Street Journal.
