Disabled Catonsville Vet Returns From Mt. McKinley Climb

A group of Wounded Warriors will present stories and photos from their journey to Alaska at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

A group of five disabled military veterans led by Catonsville's Kirk Bauer has returned from Alaska after a challenging climb, according to the Catonsville Times.

Inclement weather forced the men, all amputees, to turn back at 15,500 feet, according to the report. They were the 20,320-feet peak of Mt. McKinley, also known as Denali.

Bauer, 64, is executive director of Disabled Sports USA, one of the largest organizations that provides athletic opportunities for people with disabilities. He has headed the organization for the past 29 years. The trip was in conjunction with the Wounded Warriors project.
