Snow Emergency Declared in Baltimore County

The Maryland State Police, with input from the Maryland State Highway Administration, has declared a snow emergency for most counties in the state, including Baltimore.

Once a snow emergency has been declared, parking on roads and streets designated as snow emergency routes is prohibited, and drivers must use chains on tires, among other restrictions, according to the SHA.

These restrictions are in place until the snow emergency is lifted, the SHA said.

Exceptions can occur while a snow emergency plan, put into place by the county, is in effect. A specific route can be lifted and the remainders of roads in the county still can be under the snow emergency plan.

Also, all Baltimore County offices are closed, the county announced on its website.

The County Council has postponed its meeting for 6 p.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to the council’s website.

The county is encouraging residents to follow its Snow Frequently Asked Questions list and SnowTracker page for the most recent updates on what percentage of roads have been salted, as well as tips for weathering the storm.
