Prep Sports: State Playoff Brackets Revealed

MPSSAA finalizes state tournaments for boys and girls lacrosse, baseball and softball.

Beginning with lacrosse this Monday, the MPSSAA unveiled its playoff brackets for the 2011 season. Complete brackets can be viewed at MPSSAA.org.

Also, note that in all sports, the one through four seeds were awarded based on win-loss record, while the five through 12 seeds are slotted at random.

Baseball

  • Slated as the No. 7 seed, Catonsville will host tenth-seeded Aberdeen in the 3A North opening round on Thursday. With a win, the Comets would advance to play at second-seeded North Harford on Monday.
  • Earning a first round bye as the No. 4 seed in the 1A North region, Western Tech awaits the winner of New Town-Loch Raven (the 5-12 matchup) in the region quarterfinals to be played Monday, May 16.

Softball

  • Bestowed with the No. 11 seed in the 3A North region, Catonsville will hit the road to take on No. 6 seeded Aberdeen, Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Comets would earn a region quarterfinal match at third-seeded Hereford if they advance.
  • Earning the No. 6 seed in the 1A North region, Western Tech hosts Harford Tech, Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. The winner travels to take on Havre de Grace on Monday.  

Boys Lacrosse

  • Pegged with the No. 7 seed in the 4A-3A South region, Aaron Stubbs’ squad will host tenth-seeded Southwestern, Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. If they are to advance, the Comets will travel to take on second-seeded Woodlawn on Saturday in the region quarterfinals.
  • With all the teams in the 2A-1A North region receiving first round byes, Western Tech will take on third-seeded Chesapeake-BC in the region quarterfinals on Saturday. The Wolverines would take on the winner of Loch Raven-Randallstown (a 2-7 matchup) in the region semis with a win.

Girls Lacrosse

  • With a first round bye after earning the No. 3 seed, Catonsville will host the winner of North County-Patterson (the 6-11 matchup) on Saturday.
  • After a first round bye, eight-seeded Western Tech will face the top seed in the 2A-1A North region, Sparrows Point, Saturday afternoon in the region semifinals.
