Coach Edsall Finds the Spotlight a Bit Brighter in College Park

Honesty, discipline and character remain cornerstones of plan for success.

The four weeks that have elapsed since the Terps lost their 10th game of the 2011 season, 56-41 to North Carolina State, have given Randy Edsall time to reflect on his tumultuous first season as head coach of the University of Maryland football team.

Edsall knew there would be challenges in taking over a program, but may not have been prepared for the level of attention from the media, fans and boosters. Despite the predominantly negative buzz, Edsall feels “good about the direction we're going and what we need to get done. I feel great about everything that's going on,” the coach recently told The Baltimore Sun.

Athletic director Kevin Anderson and coach Edsall are continuing the process of evaluating the entire football program, and Edsall stresses “program” rather than “team” as his long-term goal is “to make the program all that it can be so the program can stand the test of time, he shared with the Baltimore Sun.

While a 2-10 season may not have been what the fans or even Edsall expected in year one, he will continue to do things the right way “I'm never going to compromise the values and morals and what this university stands for,” he said in an interview with the Baltimore Sun “We're not going to do something that's going to go win a game and compromise the things this university is all about.”
