College Park Metro Among 5 Most Dangerous Stops, Examiner Reports

Despite a fall in serious crimes overall, new Metro report shows that city's metro station had fifth highest rate of serious crimes in 2011.

The College Park Metro station ranked fifth for serious crimes among all WMATA rail stops in 2011, The Examiner reported.

The 55 cases of serious crimes at the College Park station last year could include assault, homicide, auto theft, rape and robbery, according to The Examiner. Greenbelt tied for ninth with 46 cases. Deanwood had the most at 67 cases.

According to the Metro Transit Police crime data, there were 1,177 serious crimes occuring along the rail line, a 7.1 percent fall from 2010. Metro saw a 16.4 percent fall in serious crimes overall, which include facilities other than the rail, according to the data.

The College Park stop was not within the top 10 based on 2010 data, but Greenbelt was ranked the third most dangerous stop that year, according to an Examiner report from 2011.
