Rent Stablization Draft to Be Discussed at Tuesday's Meeting

Council will review a draft ordinance that would continue the rent stabilization law, capping the amount that landlords can charge for rental properties in the city. The draft ordinance, which accompanies this post, would extend the law until Sept. 2017.

- The city’s Education Advisory Committee will suggest uses for $60,000 allocated for fiscal year 2013 for educational initiatives. Council increased the amount available for educational initiatives from $25,000 to $60,000.
- The College Park Housing Authority will provide an update on the Worklive College Park Program and redevelopment of .
- The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission will present its Master Plan for Parks, Recreation and Open Space in Prince George’s County for the next 30 years.
- Clucksters hopes to obtain a new Class B, Beer and Wine License from the Prince George’s County Board of License Commissioners. The council will review a draft Property Use Agreement contract (PUA).
- Staff will recommend that a contract be awarded to NZI Construction Corp., Inc., a Beltsville company, for $497,550 to complete a concrete maintenance and asphalt resurfacing project.
- Councilman Bob Catlin will request that the city staff devise a plan to use parking on Berwyn House Road to enhance retail parking for the area. “My observation is that, by and large, students fill the spaces for extended periods of time,” Catlin wrote in a letter about the approximately 20 street parking spaces. “Additional parking is required, largely for the Varsity retail across the street to the south,” he wrote.
- Council will review the fiscal year 2013 Action Plan draft, with the intent to adopt the action plan on June 12.
