COLLEGE PARK, MD—November 17, 2014—Last week, GreenDrop--the organization that is revolutionizing how consumers support their favorite charities through donating lightly worn clothing, used electronics and household goods at conveniently located, free-standing locations-- is bringing its transformative concept to College Park.
On Friday, November 7, GreenDrop officially opened the doors of their College Park location at 8900 Baltimore Avenue with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Councilmembers Denise Mitchell and Patrick Wojahn, GreenDrop management, representatives from the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and members of the community.

In commenting on the opening, GreenDrop’s CEO, Chris Stinnett, said, “We are proud to officially bring our unique concept to College Park. We are excited to be part of a vibrant community that values charitable giving and environmental sustainability.” Stinnett continued, “In a time when many charities struggle to do more with tighter budget constraints, GreenDrop is proud to provide consumers with a convenient, safe, and innovative way to participate in charitable giving. GreenDrop is committed to being a strong presence in the communities we serve by providing a safe and transparent way for donors to support their favorite charities and protect the environment.”
GreenDrop offers College Park residents a clean, brightly lit, and safe drive-up location where they are greeted at their car by a uniformed attendant to unload their donations, and provide tax-deductible documentation that allows donors to direct their giving to GreenDrop’s partner charities; the Military Order of the Purple Heart or the National Federation of the Blind. The donations are converted to cash so each of the benefitting charities can efficiently further their programs and related initiatives. In 2013, GreenDrop’s efforts raised a total of $2.5 million for its participating charities.
“We are excited to welcome GreenDrop to the College Park community,” College Park City Councilmember Patrick Wojahn said. “Our residents are eager to give back, and we appreciate that GreenDrop offers donors a clean, transparent, and safe alternative to the traditional drop-off bins. We are confident that GreenDrop will become a valued aspect of our community,” he concluded.
The site at 8900 Baltimore Avenue formerly served as a gas station before it was transformed into a carpet store. The building sat empty for a number of years before Rita’s Water Ice opened in half of the building in September of 2007. The new GreenDrop location will operate adjacent to Rita’s Water Ice.
Operating hours for the new College Park GreenDrop location will be Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM, Saturday 8 AM to 6 PM and Sunday, 10 AM to 6 PM. To learn more about GreenDrop, please visit www.gogreendrop.com.

About GreenDrop
GreenDrop is transforming the way consumers support their favorite charities by donating lightly worn clothing, used electronics and household goods at conveniently-located, free-standing locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
By recycling former gasoline stations and standalone store fronts, GreenDrop offers consumers clean, brightly lit, and safe drive-up locations where they are greeted at their car by uniformed GreenDrop attendants, who unload donations, provide tax-deductible receipts and allow consumers to direct their giving to either the Purple Heart or the National Federation of the Blind. In 2013, these charities received $2.5 million through donations to GreenDrop facilities, which are sorted and then resold at area thrift stores, sent overseas or recycled for their fibers and parts.
