1. Lt. Governor Aruna Miller Signs Maryland-Korea Agreement to Advance Quantum Innovation (maryland.gov) — College Park just hosted a major moment for Maryland's growing quantum hub, as Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller signed a partnership with South Korea's Gyeongsangbuk-do at the Quantum World Congress on the UMD campus. The agreement links College Park's research ecosystem with Korean manufacturing to speed quantum innovation, attract investment, and potentially create new jobs and business opportunities tied to the city's "Capital of Quantum" initiative.
   

2. SPARC virtual webinar: Fundamentals of Power Analysis (umbc.edu) — A University of Maryland, College Park research specialist is leading an October 20 Zoom workshop on how to run solid power analyses for NIH grant proposals. Local scholars and grad students can see Stata and R examples, learn simulation-based approaches, and leave with reusable code and resources tailored to common study designs.
   

3. Academy for Excellence Celebrates 2026 Graduates (mdcounties.org) — Local officials from across Maryland, including a College Park representative, were honored Sunday at the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance graduation held at the University of Maryland College Park's Memorial Chapel and new Public Policy building. The program, run through UMD with MACo and MML, recognizes county and municipal leaders who completed extensive training in practical, ethical local governance.
   

4. George Mason's quantum vision takes center stage during landmark week (gmu.edu) — College Park served as a key stage for the Quantum World Congress, where George Mason University showcased its plans for a Virginia Quantum Hub and a new open-architecture quantum computer. While the initiatives are Virginia-focused, the event underscored College Park's role as a regional gathering point for quantum research, workforce development, and industry partnerships.
