1 Person Seriously Burned, 2nd Suffers Smoke Inhalation In House Fire
One person has died and another was injured after the townhouse they lived in caught fire Wednesday, according to fire officials.
COLUMBIA, MD — A person trapped inside a burning home has died from serious injuries sustained in the fire, according to officials, and a second adult experienced smoke inhalation.
The fire broke out around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday at a townhouse located in the 10300 block of Nightmist Court. Firefighters found a fire burning in a second floor bedroom where the injured adult was at, officials noted.
Firefighters went into the home and rescued the trapped adult and gained control of the fire. That person was taken to the hospital for treatment of the burn injuries. The second person injured had evacuated on their own and was taken to the hospital for treatment, too, officials said.

Police announced Thursday that Sheila Brookshire, 70, died from her injuries later that day.
The fire took approximately 10 minutes to extinguish. No injuries to firefighters were reported. The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
