2 Charged in Long Reach Shooting
Police said the victim and suspects in Old Dobbin shooting were acquaintances.

COLUMBIA, MD — After a man shot in the leg was found on Old Dobbin Lane over the weekend, authorities have charged two people that they say knew the victim.
Daries Williams, 22, of the 300 block of Joplin Street in Baltimore, is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, attempted robbery and attempted armed robbery, possession with intent to distribute drugs, reckless endangerment, using a firearm in a felony crime and failure to obey a lawful order.
Eric Shird, 24, of the 6100 block of Turnabout Lane in Columbia, is charged with conspiracy to commit the following: attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, attempted armed robbery; robbery; and using a firearm in a felony crime. Shird was also charged with possession with intent to distribute drugs, possession of drugs other than marijuana, illegal possession of a registered firearm, having a handgun on his person and failure to obey a lawful order.

Officers said they found the victim — a 37-year-old Essex man — in the area of Old Dobbin Lane at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday upon responding to a report of a man shot in the leg in the roadway.
The suspects were quickly located in the area and a handgun was recovered, according to police.

The victim and suspects were acquaintances, according to Howard County Police spokeswoman Lori Boone.
A medevac took the victim Saturday night to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where police said he was in good condition. The helicopter landed at Long Reach High School to pick up the victim; the crime itself did not happen on school property, according to officials.
Both Williams and Shird were being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.
Williams is slated to appear for a preliminary hearing in Howard County District Court on Feb. 8. Shird is scheduled to appear on Feb. 7.
