2 Fires In Columbia Reported At Same Time: Officials

COLUMBIA, MD -- Firefighters say that it is a "busy night on Harpers Farm Road in Columbia" Wednesday. Two fire calls came in at the same time, according to officials.

The first involvd a report of smoke in a high-rise apartment building, the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services said.

Crews traced the smoke to a burned-out light ballast, officials reported before 7 p.m.

The second call for service was a stove fire in the 5400 block of Harpers Farm Road. The fire did not extend beyond the apartment, officials said in a statement at 7:09 p.m.
