2 Guns Seized From Speeding Car In Columbia: Police

Two loaded guns were recovered from a man who was driving 92 mph on US 29 in Columbia Thursday, Maryland State Police reported.

COLUMBIA, MD — Police said a traffic stop on US 29 in Howard County resulted in the arrest of a man who had two loaded handguns in his vehicle, one of which was in his waistband. The vehicle was stopped on US 29 south in the area of MD 175, according to Maryland State Police.

Before 3 p.m. on Thursday, police said that a trooper from the Waterloo barrack noticed a Honda Civic speeding on US 29 south past the exit for MD 108.

The trooper clocked the car going 92 mph in a 55 mph zone, according to officials, who said the traffic stop occurred near MD 175. As the officer approached the car, which only had the driver inside, authorities said the trooper saw a handgun and box of ammunition in plain view in the passenger part of the vehicle.

Upon recovering the weapon, the officer determined it was loaded and further investigation revealed the driver also had a loaded handgun in his waistband, police reported.

Kevin S. Love, 22, of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, was charged with the following, according to police:

  • Two counts of possession of a handgun in a vehicle
  • Two counts of possession of a loaded handgun in a vehicle
  • Two counts of wearing/carrying a handgun
  • Two counts of wearing/carrying a loaded handgun

Officials said Love was arrested and taken to the Howard County Detention Center for processing, and both weapons were confiscated.
