96,000 Gallons of Sewage Overflowed in Columbia: Health Department
Howard County health officials say recent rainfall will dilute contamination caused by spill.

Citizens are asked to stay away from a small stream in Phelps Luck after thousands of gallons of sewage overflowed during the storms over the weekend, the Howard County Health Department reports.
A pipe broke on Saturday, the county was notified Sunday and the pipe break was resolved by 11:15 a.m. Monday, according to the report.
The county posted signs alerting people to stay away from the stream, where 96,000 gallons of sewage overflowed between Phelps Luck Drive and Halflight Garth, the report stated.

Pets should also be kept away from the impacted area.
Because of the recent rainfall, county officials said the waste water is expected to be diluted.

Crews worked Monday on a workaround for the pipe, which was between manholes 343-4498 and 325-6585, and anticipated the work would continue overnight.
The Maryland Department of the Environment has been notified of the situation and so have neighbors, according to the county.
