After Flood, Demand Spikes at Howard County Food Bank

The food bank in Columbia is experiencing 'heavy demand' for certain items after floods ravaged Ellicott City, organizers say.

COLUMBIA, MD — Flooding over the weekend in Ellicott City has drawn displaced residents to Columbia.

Victims of the flood are being provided with free food by the Howard County Food Bank, located off MD 108.

"In light of this weekend’s events in Howard County, the food bank is experiencing an increase in demand," the Community Action Council, which runs the food bank, said Monday morning.

These items are in "heavy demand," according to the Community Action Council:

  • High-protein canned meals with pop tops (e.g., ravioli, spaghetti, soups)
  • Breakfast, snack or energy bars
  • Paper plates, napkins, plastic forks and spoons
  • Toiletries
  • Diapers and baby food products

Volunteers may donate items and victims may receive food at the Howard County Food Bank from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Additionally, people can donate money online to support the food bank and flood victims.
