Person Killed In Crash During Howard Co. Police Pursuit ID'd By Officials

The identity of the person killed Sunday during a police pursuit in Howard Co. has been released, as has the name of the involved officer.

JESSUP, MD — Officials have identified the person killed in a crash involving a Howard County police officer that happened Sunday in Jessup.

The involved police officer also has been identified.

Wednesday morning, the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General released the identity of the individual who died. He has been identified as 20-year-old Anthony Bowers, Jr. of Baltimore.

The HCPD officer involved in the fatal crash has been identified as PFC Amir Parker, a 6-year veteran. Parker is assigned to the traffic management division of the Howard County Police Department.

The preliminary investigation indicates that on Sunday around 2:17 a.m., an officer with the Howard County Police Department started pursuing a 2018 Infiniti Q60 after the vehicle hit an occupied, parked Howard County police vehicle sitting in a parking lot in the 7100 block of Montevideo Road.

The driver of the Infiniti fled the scene and the HCPD officer gave chase. The pursuit lasted around a mile, according to police, when the driver of the Infiniti ran off the road and crashed into a retaining wall. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken to Shock Trauma where they were listed in stable condition as of Monday, according to police.

The IID continues to investigate the fatal police-involved collision. Anyone with information about this incident, including cell phone or private surveillance video, is asked to contact the IID at (410) 576-7070 or via email at IID@oag.maryland.gov.

The officer was equipped with a body-worn camera which recorded the incident. The IID will generally release body-worn video footage within 20 business days of an incident. There may be situations where more than 20 days is necessary, including if investigators need more time to complete witness interviews, if there are technical delays caused by the need to shield the identities of civilian witnesses or to allow family members to view the video before it is released to the public.
