Arf, Arf! Dog Day returns on October 26 in Columbia

Columbia Association invites local canines (and their people) to an afternoon of contests, treats, activities and lots of tail-wagging fun.

Keep calm and bark on! Columbia Association (CA) will host its annual Dog Day event on Saturday, October 26 from 10am to 2pm at Columbia DogPark. CA invites local canines — and their people — to an afternoon of contests, treats, activities and lots of tail-wagging fun.


This free event also features local businesses and organizations that focus on the health, happiness and well-being of our beloved furry friends.

Columbia DogPark is located at 5901 Rivendell Lane, off Cedar Lane and adjacent to Cedar Lane Park, near the Harper’s Choice Village Center. On-site parking is limited and will be accessible-parking only. Free parking for everyone else will be available at Harper’s Choice Middle School, 5450 Beaverkill Road.

Preregistration is not required but is encouraged via dogday2019.eventbrite.com for quicker entry on the day of the event.

Dog lovers can enter their four-legged friends into the Tail-Wagging Contest; Costume Contest; Best Trick Contest; and the Biscuit-Eating Contest. The winner of this year’s Cutest Canine Contest will be announced on Dog Day — voting is open online at ColumbiaAssociation.org/cutestcanine through noon on October 21.

Here is the schedule of activities:

  • 10:30am — Tail Wagging Contest
  • 11am — Best Trick Contest
  • 11:30am — Training Demo
  • Noon — Biscuit Eating Contest
  • 12:30pm — Yoga With Your Dog
  • 1pm — Costume Contest
  • 1:30pm — Cutest Canine Contest Reveal and Raffle Drawing

Back by popular demand this year will be pet communications readings with pet communicator Emerald DuCoeur. Pet communications readings will be $10 for 10 minutes.

Dog Day will also include music, a moon bounce (for people only), food available for purchase from food trucks, caricature drawings and more. Caricature drawings of your lovable four-legged friend are $10 per face for a black-and-white drawing and $20 per face for a color drawing. Dog Day T-shirts will be available for $15.

In addition, CA will be collecting items to be donated to a local nonprofit, including:

  • Canned and dry cat and dog food
  • Soft treats and biscuit-type treats
  • New dog and cat toys (Kong-type indestructible toys are great!)
  • Blankets and towels
  • Buckle- or martingale-type collars and leashes
