Columbia Art Center is offering two new painting classes for kids — one for children between the ages of 6 and 9, the other for youth between the ages of 10 and 14.

Painting Exploration shows kids that fun and learning can be done at the same time, as children between the ages of 6 and 9 will learn the basics of painting. With instructor Jackie Serpico, they will explore color values, mixing and other principles of design, all while learning different techniques developed by famous painters. A supplies list will be provided at time of registration.

Painting by Design is for youth between the ages of 10 and 14 and will expand their understanding of color theory and how to choose subjects for paintings from photographs. As a group, and led by instructor Kate Cavanaugh, they will work on one painting together, exploring various ways to begin a composition. They will then choose their own subject matter for a painting.
