Candidate Announces He's Running For Howard County Council District 4

Former assistant chief administrative officer for the Kittleman and Ball administrations Janssen Evelyn will run for Howard County Council.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Janssen E. Evelyn has announced his candidacy for the Howard County Council District 4 seat. During an event held at Color Burst Park in downtown Columbia. Evelyn shared how he immigrated to the United States from Barbados with his parents as a young child and lived in just one room with his mother, father and siblings.

Currently an attorney at Baker Donelson in downtown Baltimore, Evelyn spent the previous six years working as an assistant county solicitor for Howard County and as an assistant chief administrative officer for the Kittleman and Ball administrations. During that time, he advised on personnel issues, labor relations and contract negotiations; handled special investigations; and assisted in the county's handling of the COVID-19 response. He also functioned as the human rights and equity agency's acting administrator.

Currently, Evelyn serves the community in a variety of roles: as vice chair on the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights; a member of the Howard County Conservancy's board of directors; a member of the Hickory Village Board' and member-at-large of the Howard County Branch of the NAACP where he chairs the environmental and climate justice subcommittee.

Earlier this year, Evelyn was recognized as a "leadership in law" honoree by The Maryland Daily Record.

“I am running as a proud Democrat for the County Council to represent all the residents of District 4 so that informed, practical, forward-thinking, experienced and equitable solutions can be found," Evelyn said.

Evelyn plans on knocking on the doors of as many residents of District 4 as he can between now and the primary June 28, 2022, to meet face to face with the voters to share his vision and listen to their concerns.
