Carjacking, Cab Driver Stabbed, Robbery: Columbia Crime

Groups of people in their 20s also assaulted men and robbed them in Columbia twice over the weekend, according to police.

The Howard County Police Department provided the following information about recent incidents in Columbia.

The Exxon in the 7200 block of Eden Brook Drive was robbed at 8:47 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29. Two men with their faces covered went into the gas station and held up the store. One suspect, wielding a handgun, threatened the employee. The second suspect took the employee’s cell phone and demanded money. The suspects were described as men 5’8ā€ tall of unknown race, One was 160 pounds, wearing a black coat and gray hoodie. The second was approximately 200 pounds and wearing a blue hoodie and jeans.

A group of eight people assaulted and robbed a man in a parking lot in the 8700 block of Cloudleap Court at 5:26 p.m. on Saturday, Nov 28. The suspects were described as six black males and two black females in their 20s. They stole the man’s wallet. The victim was not seriously injured.

Two individuals tried to rob a man sitting on a bench in the 6400 block of Freetown Road at 11:22 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 27. One suspect implied he had a weapon, and the victim ran into a local business. Nothing was taken. The suspects were described as two black men in their mid to late 20s. One was wearing jeans, a burgundy hat and black sweatshirt. The second was wearing jeans and a gray sweatshirt.

A group of men assaulted an individual and stole his wallet and backpack in the 10300 block of Daystar Court at 12:40 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 27. The victim had been walking at the time when five black men in their 20s approached him and the assault began. The victim was taken to Howard County General Hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

A taxi driver was stabbed in the 7100 block of Talisman Lane at 9:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25. The driver had picked up two black men in their 20s and taken them to Talisman Lane, which they had requested. When the passengers tried to get out of the taxi without paying the fare, the taxi driver locked the doors. At that point, one man produced a handgun and the other man cut the driver with a knife. The driver unlocked the doors, and the two ran away. The driver was taken to Howard County General Hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening. The suspects were described as two black men in their 20s with small builds—approximately 5’6ā€ to 5’8.ā€ One suspect was wearing gray sweatpants and a hoodie, and the other was wearing black sweatpants and a hoodie.

A carjacking was reported in the 5400 block of Beaverkill Road at 8:08 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25. A man was getting into his car when two black men in their late teens approached him, one of them with a handgun, and ordered him to get out of the vehicle. They took his wallet, cell phone and vehicle. One suspect was 5’8ā€ tall and of average build, wearing black sweatpants and a hoodie. The second suspect was wearing a gray hoodie.
