Clarksville Student is Maryland Google Doodle Winner

A student at Clarksville Middle School is one of 53 finalists in the Google Doodle Contest.

CLARKSVILLE, MD – A Clarksville student’s love of owls and art have made her a winner here in Maryland. And with your help, she could win a trip to Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., where she’ll sit down with a team of professional doodlers in charge of decorating the busiest web page in the world.

Anjali Pulim, a seventh grader from Clarksville Middle School, is one of 53 state and territory winners in the Google Doodle Contest. Her doodle “Owls Be Chillin’” was selected from approximately 100,000 entries.

Vote for Anjali’s Google doodle to win the national contest here.

“One of my favorite hobbies is sculpting mini-figures out of polymer clay,” Anjali Pulim told Google. “The owl is one of my favorite animals because they symbolize intelligence, and I also love creating witty little cartoons. I go about my day imagining every little humorous event like a comic. These things make me me!”

Voting in the Google Doodle Contest is open to anyone in the U.S. from Friday, Feb. 5, until Monday, Feb. 22.

Google will announce five national finalists and one national winner on March 21. The winner’s Google doodle will go live on Google.com that day.

The finalists will travel to Google’s headquarters to meet its team of professional doodlers to see what it takes to launch a Doodle on the Google homepage.

This year, the national finalists can also nominate an inspiring teacher to go on the trip.

The national winner will take home a $30,000 college scholarship and his/her school will receive a $50,000 Google for Education grant toward the establishment or improvement of a computer lab or technology program. Clarksville Middle already received a donation of art supplies in honor of Anjali Pulim’s win for the state of Maryland.
