Columbia Crime: Handgun Wave, Office Break-In, Pizza Robbery

Pizza delivery driver robbed at knifepoint, dumbbells stolen from patio and more crimes were reported recently in Columbia, police said.

COLUMBIA, MD - The Howard County Police Department provided the following information about recent incidents. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

There was a break-in at the Alister Columbia Apartments leasing office in the 8900 block of Early April Way. At 10:03 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, someone broke the glass door and stole a backpack.

A 13-year-old boy was charged with breaking and entering after he jumped a fence and tried to steal a bicycle in the 9300 block of Reader Lane. The incident occurred at 9:02 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17.

A pizza delivery driver was robbed at knifepoint in the 6100 block of Cedar Wood Drive. Two suspects, one armed with a knife, demanded the man's belongings, then the pair took cash and the pizza. Nobody was injured in the robbery, which occurred at 8:54 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16. The suspects were described as two black men, one who was 5 feet 10 inches tall, the other who was 5 feet 6 inches tall. Both were of average build and were wearing dark hats and dark clothing.

A 26-year-old Laurel man was charged after he allegedly drove up to a man and showed a handgun. He was acquainted with the victim, who had been walking on Brandywine Way at Eden Brook Drive around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16. The suspect was charged with 10 offenses: first and second-degree assault, possession of a handgun with a felony conviction, reckless endangerment, violating a protective order and five weapons-related violations.

Two Columbia teens were charged with burglary and trespassing after police allege they went into a vacant apartment in the 9700 block of Clocktower Lane. The burglary occurred at 7:57 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15. The suspects were an 18-year-old boy from Early April Way and a 16-year-old girl charged as a juvenile.

Dumbbells were stolen from an outside patio in the 6300 block of Gray Sea Way sometime between Sunday, Sept. 10, and Thursday, Sept. 14.

Cash and jewelry were stolen from a residence in the 5000 block of Hesperus Drive from 2 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. A rear sliding glass door was broken.

Cash and jewelry were stolen from a residence in the 10800 block of Beech Creek Drive. A back basement window was forced open in the burglary, which occurred on Saturday, Sept. 9.

A woman was robbed at gunpoint in the 6100 block of Turnabout Lane at 9:53 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8. The victim gave the suspect the money, and nobody was injured in the robbery. The suspect was described as a thin black man who was 5 feet 8 inches tall with a beard and a black hooded sweatshirt.

A parked trailer in the 6600 block of Rouse Parkway was burglarized on Thursday, Sept. 7. A door had been left unlocked, and nothing was stolen.

Cash was stolen from the Phelps Luck Alano Club in the 9200 block of Rumsey Road at 1:39 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5. There were no signs of forced entry.

Keys, credit cards, cell phones and flash drives were stolen from a residence in the 6000 block of Misty Arch Run. The burglary happened when someone got inside through a window at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

The front glass door to Ledo Pizza was broken into in the 6900 block of Oakland Mills Road. Nothing was reported stolen in the burglary, which happened at 4:57 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

A man wearing a black hoodie and burgundy pants tried to get into a residence in the 6000 block of Majors Lane at 8:25 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4. The suspect ran away when he was spotted and did not get inside.

Howard County police arrested 14 people for driving under the influence over Labor Day weekend. Officers had increased patrols on county roads for the holiday weekend that ended Monday, Sept. 4.

A set of earphones was stolen from Best-Met Publishing in the 5500 block of Twin Knolls Road. The burglary was reported at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3. There were no signs of forced entry.

Cash was stolen from Ruby Tuesday in the 9000 block of Snowden River Parkway. There were no signs of forced entry in the burglary, which happened sometime between Sunday, Sept. 3, and Monday, Sept. 4.

An office building was burglarized in the 8800 block of Stanford Boulevard at 7:50 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1. Nothing was reported stolen.

Several vehicle-related thefts were reported recently in Columbia:

Two tires were stolen from a vehicle in the 5200 block of Hermit Path at 4:27 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17.

A 2010 Chrysler 300 was stolen from the 7000 block of Deepage Drive at 3:23 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16. It has Maryland tags "8CP6078."

A 2012 Honda Accord was stolen from the 5400 block of Fallriver Row Court at 7:54 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16.

A 2010 Toyota Camry was stolen from the 12200 block of Green Meadow Drive at 8:43 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14. It has Maryland tags "9CP8282."

A 2007 Honda Civic was stolen from the 8800 block of Tamar Drive at 6:35 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11.

A 2001 Buick LeSabre was stolen from the 5300 block of Smooth Meadow Way at 8:58 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10.

A 2017 Honda Civic was stolen from the 5400 block of Columbia Road at 4:12 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10. It has Maryland tags "4CV2486."

Tires were stolen from a vehicle in the 9100 block of Helaine Hamlet Way at 2:24 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Tires were stolen from Mr. Tire in the 6400 block of Dobbin Center Way at 10:35 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

A 2009 Honda Accord was stolen from the 11600 block of Little Patuxent Parkway at 10:25 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4. It had Maryland tags "86598CG."

Four tires were stolen from a Honda Accord in the 9100 block of Flamepool Way, reported at 4:57 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1.
