Teen Attempting Drug Deal in Columbia Robbed at Knifepoint: Police

Residential burglary, two bike thefts and men sleeping in game room were also among recent crime reports in Columbia.

The Howard County Police Department provided the following information about recent incidents in Columbia.

An attempted street robbery was reported Monday night in Owen Brown.

A pedestrian was walking in the 7500 block of Broken Staff before 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, when a man he did not know threatened him and demanded his wallet.

The victim walked away, and nobody was injured.

The suspect was described as a black man with a dark complexion and athletic build. He was between 6’ and 6’2” and was wearing a black shirt, paints and dark ball cap.

Two More Robberies

A 16-year-old skateboarder told police two men he didn’t know robbed him at knifepoint when he tried to buy drugs from them. The armed robbery occurred at approximately 6:03 p.m. in the 7200 block of Dockside Lane on Saturday, Aug. 29. The teen had gone up to the pair of suspects and attempted to buy drugs when one of them threatened him with a knife and demanded money, which he provided. Nobody was injured. Both suspects were black men who were approximately 5’8” tall and between 18 and 26 years old with short hair. One was wearing a black tank top, gray sweatpants and flip-flops. The other was wearing a blue t-shirt, dark jeans and boots.

A man gave someone he didn’t know a ride from Baltimore to the 5600 block of Vantage Point Road. When they got to Columbia, the hitchhiker acted like he had a weapon and demanded money. The driver provided the money, and the suspect left. Police found drugs at the scene and said it was unclear whose they were. The robbery was reported at approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. The suspect was described as a black man between 30 and 40 years old with short hair and an all-green outfit. The incident remains under investigation.

Burglaries

A bike was stolen from an unlocked garage sometime between 1:30 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30. The theft occurred in the 9300 block of Westering Sun.

Bicycles were taken from an open garage in the 9200 block of Pigeonwing Place between 1 and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30.

It has not been determined whether the two bike thefts are related, according to Lori Boone, spokeswoman for the Howard County Police Department, who advised citizens to close and lock their garage doors.

A shed and residence were broken into in the 6500 block of Quiet Hours. The suspect(s) broke the sliding glass door and stole coins from the home, and also went into a shed and took gloves. The burglary occurred between Thursday, Aug. 13, and Saturday, Aug. 29.

An employee at a condo in the 10100 block of Governor Warfield Parkway found people asleep in the building’s first-floor game room before 5:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28. The suspects were described as three thin Hispanic men in their early 20s with black hair and brown eyes. When the employee discovered them, they left.
