Columbia Leader Named National Outstanding Assistant Principal

COLUMBIA, MD — Sonia Hurd, the assistant principal at Clemens Crossing Elementary School, has been named the 2021 National Outstanding Assistant Principal for Maryland by the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

Hurd was selected based on her leadership; respect among students, colleagues, parents and the community at large; and for setting high expectations for school staff and students, the district shared. Founded in 1921, NAESP is a professional organization serving elementary and middle school principals and other education leaders throughout the United States, Canada, and overseas.

Its National Outstanding Assistant Principal award program honors assistant principals who are doing a superb job in their roles, promotes educational excellence for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade schooling and calls attention to the fundamental importance of the assistant principal.
