Columbia Man Faces Charges of Attempted Murder

The suspect allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend after she asked him to leave her residence because it was late.

A Columbia man allegedly threatened, punched and kicked his ex-girlfriend after a domestic dispute.

Colonel Preston Long III, 29, of Columbia was indicted for attempted first- and second-degree murder and three assault charges, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Police officers responded to the victim’s apartment around 12:23 a.m. on July 14, the news outlet reports. Charging documents state a witness told the police Long had assaulted the victim after an argument when the victim wanted Long to leave her home because it was late. Long allegedly became angry, threatened the victim, punched and kicked her in the face, choked her and dragged her by the hair, hitting her head against the wall and washing machine.

Long reportedly also tried to attack the witness when she tried to intervene, The Sun reports. He fled the scene and was arrested on July 19 in New Jersey for drug-related charges. Long was extradited to Howard County. He is currently released on $250,000 bond.
