Columbia Man Hit Trooper, Sending 3 To Hospital: Police

Police say a Columbia driver has been charged after crashing into a state trooper on the Eastern Shore over the weekend.

EASTON, MD — A Columbia man has been charged after police said he slammed into the back of a state trooper over the weekend near the Eastern Shore. Authorities said the crash sent three people to the hospital and caused a 40-minute road closure.

Saquan Marquis Eangleheart, 21, of the 6100 block of Majors Lane, is accused of crashing into a trooper on US 50 as the officer was preparing to make a U-turn Sunday morning.

Eangleheart had been driving a black Toyota Camry when he moved from the left lane and crashed into the patrol vehicle, which was in the turn lane, at 6:15 a.m. on Sunday in the area of MD 322, according to officials.

Both vehicles had to be towed, according to police.

Eangleheart was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid collision, failure to reduce speed in unfavorable weather conditions, unsafe lane change and negligent driving, Maryland State Police reported.

There was fog and a light mist in the area on Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The collision occurred about 70 miles from the driver's residence.

The crash involving the police cruiser came less than two weeks after the Columbia man was stopped closer to home; Howard County police cited Eangleheart on Feb. 13 for driving 92 mph in a 55 mph zone on northbound US 29 near US 40, according to online court records.
