Columbia Man Taken by Medevac After Route 32 Crash: Police

Vehicle hit an embankment near Shaker Drive Monday night, police said.

A Columbia man was hospitalized Monday night after hitting an embankment on MD Route 32, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Joe John Fisher, 39, was airlifted to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment after his 2014 Toyota Camry crashed near Shaker Drive, police reported.

The car lost control, left the road and hit an embankment at approximately 11:30 p.m. Monday, according to the report. A witness told police the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, the report said.

Fisher was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, according to police, who said it was unknown whether drugs or alcohol were factors.

He was listed in ”serious but stable condition” at the hospital, police said.

Route 32 closed for approximately two hours to westbound traffic near Broken Land Parkway for cleanup and investigation, according to police. The investigation continues.
