UPDATE: Talbott Springs Elementary School Reopens Tuesday
Staff and students should report to Talbott Springs Elementary on time Tuesday, Jan. 10, Howard County Public School System reports.
COLUMBIA, MD — Talbott Springs Elementary School will open as scheduled on Tuesday, Jan. 10, school officials said. The reopening follows a heating system malfunction Monday morning.
"Great news!" Principal Nancy Thompson wrote in an update for families Monday afternoon. "The building is warm and progress has been made with repairing the heating system that affects the cafeteria."
Said Thompson: "Please have your children at school on time (entry into TSES is at 8:25) for a regular school day" Tuesday morning.

PREVIOUS REPORT — Talbott Springs Elementary School will be closed on Monday, Jan. 9, according to a statement from the Howard County Public School System.
There was a problem with the heating system in the building in the 9500 block of Basket Ring Road, officials said. As a result, Talbott Springs would be closed to both students and staff, officials said Monday morning.

All activities at Talbott Springs Elementary, both school-sponsored and community-sponsored, are canceled.
Temperatures were below freezing on Monday in Columbia, with a high of 26 degrees, according to the forecast from the National Weather Service. It was 13 degrees outside when authorities announced the school would be closed.
